Variational Quantum Eigensolvers (VQE)

How do we use today's noisy quantum computers (NISQ) for useful work?

VQE is a hybrid algorithm. It uses a classical computer to optimize the parameters of a quantum circuit to find the ground state energy of a molecule.

Application: Drug discovery and Material science. Simulating molecular bonds is one of the "killer apps" for near-term quantum.
